The Device Timeline allows users to see and annotate the history of a device. The Timeline currently shows all Firmware Updates, QuantAQ Service Logs (Since February 2024), and user-managed Notes (including images) in a chronological history.

How to view the Device Timeline

Users with "Researcher" permissions or above can view the Device Timeline. Users with only "Viewer" permissions, or non-logged-in users for a public device cannot see the Device Timeline.

Navigate to the device you would like to view the Device Timeline for. You can see a preview of the Device Timeline on the main device page itself, on the lower right:

Here, you can see a preview of the 3 most recent events on the timeline. To view the full device timeline, click "View full history":

You can now see the Full Device Timeline. You can click on the categories below to filter the timeline to a single category:

Note that you can click on "Show details" for Notes and Service Logs to expand them and see their contents:

How to create and manage Notes on the Device Timeline

You must have "Edit" permissions for a device to create or manage Notes on the Device Timeline.

Navigate to the device timeline, and click "Create note" in the top right:

Give the note a title, a start date, and optionally an end date (if relevant):

Add a description of the note. You can upload images by clicking the image icon to upload PNG or JPG images, or use other rich text features.

Once you're done, click Save at the bottom:

You can also always edit existing notes if need be, or delete them permanently by clicking "Show Details" then "Edit" or "Delete":

FAQ

Are Notes or other Timeline Events available via API?

No, not at this time. We may add support for this feature in the future.

Can I use HEIC images from my iPhone in Device Notes?

Not directly at this time. Instead, you can convert HEIC images to JPEG using an online tool like https://heictojpg.com/. After conversion, the images are able to be used in device notes.
